I have a 1967 Camaro convertible. Last week the right side top latch knuckle decided to fall off while driving down the road. I went to a local resto shop and purchased an after market replacement latch. I cant figure this crazy thing out.

The replacement latch comes in 4 pieces...the spring, the j-hook, the knuckle and the pin that is supposed to attach everything to the convertible top. I can't seem to get the pin inserted into the knuckle. I'm not sure if this allowed here but I have placed a link to an ebay page showing the parts I have. I did this in an effort to show what I was speaking off and hoping someone could tell he how to properly assemble this "stoopid" thing or if I have purchased the incorrect item. I appologize in advance if this is not allowed. Thanks for the help.

I would like to know too! Have not had a chance to disassemble one yet (read destroy). I have to replace a spring on one of mine. It is on the list when I start tearing apart my spare tops for my SS. But that won't be until late summer. :(

Kevin,
I have spent 2 weeks researching this particular part and have found that you can purchase these "knuckles" in 3 different ways.

I purchased a set that was totally assembled but was unable to figure out how to get them attached to the convertible top.

THe most recent set I purchased included the pin, knuckle, j-hook and spring but am unable to figure out how to get the pin inserted into the knuckle.

The 3rd set I've seen I think may be the way to go. The set includes the knuckle, spring, j-hook and the pin seems to be tapered at one end. This makes me think it is able to insert into the knuckle and through the assembly on the convertible top.

Anyway...hoping someone can shed a little light on the matter. NExt week is supposed to be beautiful here in Oklahoma and Im hoping to have my "mistress" ready for the road.

The original pin does have a taper on one end, the replacement, I used was a hollow roll pin. As noted, I needed to drill for the pin to fit, otherwise it just bent the handle.
