here is my problem,i bought my dream car a 68 camaro, the car is in perfect shape other than the front clip,i got it from a young kid so you can only guess the history. i know the car was restored before he got a hold of it. it has a borg warner 4 spd.that is what i was told any way.it doesnt have a motor in it. the car was a 6cyl car so im not destroying anything. my question is i would like to do a big block 427
not radical but a very strong motor. i thaught about copying a L-88, but is that a very streetable motor or is the cam to much i am open to any suggestions. my history is in offroading.
i have done a couple efi swaps but im doing somthing differant than i am use to, horsepower and speed.i never really got into the street sceen until now. open to any suggestion. thanks for the time

The early 535 cam is sort of streetable if you have enough compression. The later 180 cam is not good for anything including a race car. Personally I would get a more modern design it will work much better.

Nowdays it doesn't make sense to limit yourself to only 427 cubes unless if you want to do a restoration...but you can get 427ci from a small block (only 15 cubes more than me). Go for a 468, or a 502+ci motor, then you'll get the torque you want for the street but still make excellent HP. You can tell people it's a 427 anyway, they wont know the difference.

yep, i agree with matt 100%. the 427 is an awesome motor, but it would cost as much or more than a larger cube motor. i'm thinking 555"+, and tell them its a 396 :D

If you want steetable power, go with cubic inches. As for cam, don't mess with the old technology OEM cams. Your best bet is to go hydraulic roller. You will make gobs of power and be very streetable.

If you like EFI, maybe go with the GM Ram Jet 502. Watch out for hood clearance though.
