Im building a protouring car, its a 67 the subframe is done with full DSE suspension, I originally set up the coil overs with a big block in mind using 650 lbs springs. Ive since changed my mind and decided I want to do a big inch small block and keep the weight on the nose fairly low. The rear has been mini tubbed and will use dse's sub frame connectors. The Question is I need an engine combo for a 427 cuin. small block, we(the wife) want to be able to drive this thing out to the mid west and possibly do a power tour. So its got to have some endaurance, and reliability, But Im a power junky as is many of you. I want to stay nomally asperated Im thinking iron block/allum heads/EFI/ 5-speed/373-4.11. Give me your thoughts on compression/cam profile/heads etc. and some details for the engine combo? Im thinking close to 10k with out the efi system but if I can squeze that in for that cost great!

Thanks Rich

Here (http://www.shafiroff.com/434_595_engine.asp) is what you need. :D

434 ci, 595 HP, 565 ft/lbs for $8995 complete.

Or if you want a little milder Bill Mitchell (http://www.theengineshop.com) has a nice 505 HP 427 small block.

10K sound kinda high for a SB without EFI, I think you can do it for 10K with EFI.
If its big cubes go aftermarket block, 434 would be good, 18deg heads, or big 235cc Pro Actions or Darts or Brodix M2 227s (head being the most important part of makin power with a big cube SB), nice hyd roller say around 240-250dur.(for your cross country trips) single plane Fast EFI system. I wouldnt get crazy on the bottom end, since you probably arnt gonna spin it past 6500rpm (are you), and go with a decent steel crank of your choice, some Scat 4340 I-beam rods, SRP pistons - rotating assm. If you plan on doing a Tremec, dont bother puttin much gear in the car, because the TQ of this motor will take care of your rubber fast, and I'm guessing its gonna be some low profiles and not a sticky street slick... I'd go with 323 to 355 gear at the most. You should check up on skidwnit's and sbchevy's combos on the net as their 434s run really well for street motors pullin down over 130mph in the 1/4.

Good point on the gearing with the 5 speed. I had a TKO with 3.73's in the rear, and with my 434 small block, and it wasn't even funny. I ended up selling the TKO.
