Has anyone had any experience with the World Products Merlin heads for the BBC? If so or not, where can I find a HP recipe using the heads?

Hey Racing, did they work well, would you buy them again or buy some other brand?

Whatta ya gonna use the motor to?Street/Strip or pure drag or what?
All Dart heads are reasonably priced IMO.
The construction of them are getting old tho,and therefore there are heads that are just as good at a lesser price these days.
Might wanna check www.omegagear.com (http://www.omegagear.com) out.Or why not www.automaxx.com (http://www.automaxx.com) .They both sell stuff to the professional.

I have used the Merlin Square Port heads on a 502 shortblock and they worked excellent. The power range is quite high with the square ports and I would use the Merlin Oval ports or the Edelbrock Aluminum Oval ports for the street.

I have a guestion for Bob Tiley what is the rest of the combo in the 502 that a Merlin has too big a port. On a 502 by 3500 RPM you should see an improvement with the sguare port head. Chev uses about the same head you recommended on its truck replacement 502s. A friend of mine has a big port 502 in a 72 Chevelle convertible with 276s it runs great the only problem is that it eats tourque converters on the freeway because of all the low speed torque. The converter wont quit slipping

My full-port Merlin ovals (2.25x1.88)went 360 / 283 cfm @ 650 lift on a 4.5" bore adapter - 2" exhaust header pipe.

The exhaust continued to rise to the top lift recorded - 307cfm@0.800" on 2" tube - intake stayed at 360 650"-800" never becoming turbulent.

There is plenty of potential in the oval heads if your willing to spend the cash - they will follow your needs as you get progressively serious.

And all with the a small cross section port! (for torque)

Did you try a set of unported Big Port Merlins just to see what numbers you get. If you are going to run .800 lift on the street low speed torque is not going to be your biggest problem.

Unported merlins go 300 / 200 @ 600 lift.

I would never run an 800 lift anything - but all data is good.

As always - max flow for minumum cross section = widest available torque curve.

IMO

I have a question why do you want to make more low speed torque? I have spent more time killing it than anything else. In my Super Street car I had to go from a 400 turbo to a glide because when the track was loose it was to inconstant. My Super Comp car I took a perfectly good 427 and put .400 long rods in it for the same reason. I moved the torque up high enough so that it quit giving me problems. In My 66 L72 Vette I took out the origonal engine and put in a 71LS5 with a mild cam. It runs fine but with 3.55 it will start out in 3rd gear as easy as firstand any attempt to stand on it in first gear results in just sitting in one spot and melting the tires. If you are building a motor for a truck you are towing with build all torque you can otherwise be carefull
