The Crane Fireball is a series of cams. You would need to check with the builder/cam swapper, or pull the intake and check lift.

Hi There,

I have a Craner Fireball II series cam in my 327. If I recall correctly, The cam had two sizes. The one I have is .480" lift 302 AdvertiZed Duration and 280` @ .050. I think that the other , smaller profile, was a 284 Adv and 260` @.050 ~.472 lift.

That is what I remember from 1988 and I have not been able to find any info on the web at all to back this up...

hope that helped.

Thanks for the replys!Im gonna go with a shot in the dark and assume its the smaller crane fireballII.Considering it doesnt seem like much of a cam, but to be sure ill pull it to check it out.Thanks.

BTW, the motor will not stay time at all!We havent broken into it yet to see what could possibly be the problem.Just from looking at the motor the the timing cover doesnt seem to fit right/or is really lose.Think it could be just a wore out timing chain and wrong cover?

I think they were 290 and 304 way back when!!

And I think they have changed durations through the years due to advertisement stuff, imho...

You know, the old camshaft wars sorta stuff here of old between Cam Dynamics and Crane before Crane bought them out..

But nowaday's I call Crane's 272/272 Energizer hy- cam the Little Fireball b/c it IS a DANDY!!

Just like the good old CC 268HE!!

A timing chain can definately cause an issue like that. I would suggest starting a new thread in the engine or troubleshooting section. Include all the details you can. The guys in there will help.

They always do!

I had the Crane Fireball II in a 350. It had the same dimensions as the 268H from Comp Cams, if I remember right. Which would be 218/218 at .050" .454/.454" lift on a 110 lobe sep. It had very good low end power, but it ran out of oomph around 5500 rpm. This was a stock bore, cast flat top 350, with 1.94/1.5 double hump heads and a Weiand 8004 dual plane intake. Hope this helps. graemlins/beers.gif

The 2 most recent fireball cams are the 290 (216/216@.050, .454/.454, 110/105) and the 302 (228/228, .480/.480, 112/107). They are the same as the 272 energizer and 284 energizer (crane). The 290 is a wonderful torque/midrange cam in a 350. That cam came with the fresh 350 that was in my nova when I bought it. It had stock 882 heads, stock type .040 dished pistons, edelbrock performer intake, headers, and dual 3" exhaust  Even with a stock torque convertor and 2.56 gears, it would blow the tires right off the car. With the low compression, it had just a bit of lump in the idle, but would be perfectly driveable on a daily basis. I have used this cam in numerous 350 chevys and 351w fords, all in 1/2 ton trucks, and always with excellent results.
