: Storing Glass

Got all the glass out of my 68 and it will probably be out for a while, is there a best way to store particularly the front and back. Standing up, laying down etc. The front especially feels really fragile and I don't want it to break from just storing it wrong.
Thanks

I'm not sure why... but I've always seen the glass stored standing up.

Standing...you may forget and lay something heavy on it by mistake. Also, I'd take the time to wrap/cover it with some cardboard, and label it.

Think about a sheet of cardboard... it is much stronger when you push on it along the edge compared to pushing directly into it perpendicularly. You can theoretically push your finger right through it. Same for glass. The edges stored vertically provide rigidity=safer to store long-term.

I would still wrap the edges in double-thick cardboard to prevent any chipping. You never know if you're going to pass something heavy over or near the glass taking a risk of chipping an open edge.

I had mine stored on edge in the rafters of my garage. When I moved out of that house I had a broken windsheild, not sure why. I have had it stored flat for 12 years here in a protected location, no known problems. I have it stored high and there is another shelf over it. It's in a corner of the basement that looks like something you would see on the Hoarders TV show, so not much traffic around it . I don't have to worry about children here.

Had my rear glass wrapped in a blanket and standing on end (the right side) vertically for years, it it still fit like a glove. It was standing very upright, close to the wall.

Glass is usually stored on end because it can actually distort over time if stored flat and not properly supported.

2X I stored all the glass from my car this way for 5 years. I stood it up on some heavy duty foam packing material. I just got out the windshield and back glass. It still fits perfect.

Yea vertical seemed the way to go just wanted to double check, its the original glass and wanted to be safe.
I was amazed at how flimsy it felt once out of the car.
