I have searched through the archives have not been able to find the answer to my question.

Which is better a mechanical fuel pump or an electric? Why?

I wonder what the prize is for the correct answer.........

Mechanical pump:
1. Can be purchased cheaply at any parts store
2. Will usually run for several thousands of miles before breaking.
3. Additional load onto camshaft and its timing chain.
4. Can usually "float" at high rpm.
5. Will sometimes leak oil either into the fuel path or to the outside through the vent hole, or both.
6. Will only work as good as it can "suck."
7. Fuel pressure already designed into fuel pump. "Plug and play."

Electric pump:
1. Pushes fuel better than a mechanical pump sucking.
2. Decreases the cyclic load from the timing chain and camshaft.
3. Not rpm limited as mech pump.
4. Must wire into the electrical system, a fused path and a relay to operate the pump.
5. Pump (external mounted) must be mounted by the fuel tank and benefical if located below the fuel level.
6. See Step #5, if pump is too low, can become a hazard if below the wheel rim. If you have a flat tire, will it drag on the ground?
7. Depending upon model, must install a regulator for usage, maybe even a return line to tank.
8. Lack of repair capability, when was the last time you could get repair kit for the broke electric pump from your local auto parts store?

Just some ideas I thought...............
