Hello, please can someone tell me if this hole is supposed to be there? I see no mention of it in the assembly manual, and can't imagine what is supposed to go there. It looks like the previous owner drilled it for some reason, but I don't want to fill it if it's supposed to be there.

It's in the 'inner' dash panel, and can be seen when looking into the big hole where the wiper motor goes. The first pic is straight on, the second pic is me leaning over and peering through the part where the cowl panel goes.

Please advise?

That hole was not apparent on any of the various Camaros I've had or worked on.

Not original, my thought, to gun a temp, oil pressure guage out?? If wrong I give, unless they wanted a foot bath in the rain??

Is there any indication that the car has seen significant use as a race car? The grillwork in the cowl has always been a convenient place to clamp various gauges.

That's what I was gonna suggest. Usually a tach or something mounted to the cowl panel.
Weld it closed.

I'm going to weld it closed, John is correct in that I can see through the hole when looking up at it from inside the car! I'll bet I would get soaked in the rain!

Chuck, you're probably correct in that the hole was made for wires to pass through it; I looked and saw small screw holes on the cowl panel, quite likely from mounting brackets of some sort. I don't know if my camaro was ever a race car, it doesn't have rear tubs or anything like that.
