Ok so I have installed the RS lower sheet metal on my non-RS car so that I could have the parking lights down low. However I don’t want a RS grill so I am going to mod the one I have. Here is a old pic of the car I doctored up to give you a idea what i am attempting.

Question is has anyone does this or know if there someone making this grill already? I don’t want to do the billet thing.
I am thinking I am going to make it myself so if anyone has a broken 68 standard grill I can use for donor parts let me know I would love to take it off your hands for parts. :)

I see this as an improvement - good idea and good luck with the project. I'm in process of replacing the plastic with billet grill on my RS. The kit looks amazing but doesn't fit well at all. Having to customize the mounting of the hideaway covers. I'd give you may old plastic grill to cut up if you lived close by but probably not worth it to ship it.

Well a new grill is around 80 bucks so it actual might be worth the shipping. I will of course pay for shipping costs. You are cutting the grill out of a 68 standard grill right?
The plan is to cut out the parking lights. Make a template of the hole and then overlay it over a good part of another grill. Cut out the section I need and bond it to my grill. Then with some time, sandpaper and paint I should be able to make repair look seamless. Saw a grill repair on PowerBlock that’s paintable and sandable that should work to bond the two parts together.
Right now I have more time than money so it should be a fun project while I wait. I am not going with the billet just for the reason you said, they never fit right. Wish someone just made a billet one that was a complete replacement.

That looks surprisingly good.
Here's an idea if you want. Put the park lights behind the grill where they can't be seen but will shine through the grill when needed. I think it would continue the clean look achieved on the left

Now the grill I spoke of is for RS - not sure if the spacing on vertical/horizontal is same or not.

That would have been sweet too but I already have a rs lower valence pannle installed. Don't want to duplicate lights.
And ya I only want to use another STD grill just to make sure everything lines up perfidy, but thanks.

Ok so the project is going slowly as I only have a few hours a weekend to work on it.
But here are the pics of what I have so far. Did make a major mistake and cut the first donor grille cutout to small. HEHE :o ... so if you do this yourself always cut way more than you think you need and trim trim trim.
I also found if you slowly cut away at the donor grille fins and get them as tight as you can go, then you can superglue just the edges. I used a mettle file and just kept test fitting till it was perfect. Then held it in place with clips and superglue just the inside tips where the two grille fins met.

Original Grille with the donor grille masked of where I will be cutting to keep everything stright.

Donor fins held in with clips while i superglue everything in place. You can also see i angle cut the fins so there is a V wedge where the plastic bondo can adhear too.

I already started useing the plastic bondo but it takes time to cure. So I will post more pics later when its not so late.

Very nice mod! I use JB weld for my grill repairs as both glue and filler, works great!
