I was having a wire grounding problem on my '69's parking lights. They would light but not blink. I have been able to isolate it down to the GM style wire connector which comes off the harness and the plug which come off the parking light. The wire are loose. Is there a way to bypass or fix this? The harness has 3 wires (2 brown and one blue). The parking light which connects to it is a 2 wire (Purple and Black- both are hot)

Good question. I have a couple plugs where the wires have pulled out and will not stay in the connector.

Are replacement connectors available?

Not that I have seen. I have tried to buy just the connectors and no one will sell them without the whole harness. I was going to make some of my own harnesses so I could put what I wanted in. If anyone else can get individual connectors and pins I would like to know who from.

I haven't bought any from GM, but you can buy just the metal spade parts that fit inside the plastic connectors from Ford. I would think GM would have them also if you took them a sample of what you needed

for the terminals that don't stay in the connector, just pull it out and CAREFULLY bend the tab on the back of the terminal up just a 16th inch or so, then push it back in the connector. it should click when it is in, and will not fall back out. if you ever need to take it apart again, just slide a small flat blade screwdriver between the terminal and connector from the "business end"- do this very carefully, also.
this will help you 99% of the time, unless someone has already taken the liberty of breaking that tab off..then you need a new terminal.

If all lights come on (front and back) when turn signal lever is moved your problem is the flasher on your fuse panel. There are two of these-1 for turn signals-1 for hazard.Hope this helps. www.geocities.com/jhow66 (http://www.geocities.com/jhow66)

Thanks to all for the responses. I am sorry to see other folks having the same problems with no end in site. We should go into business making GM style connector replacments. Ha Ha!! I tried the trick of removing the wire and bending the tab 1/16 of an inch then replacing it. It worked on the harness side, but the plug which comes from the light was a different story. The stuff is 30+ years old and fragile. Back to the drawing board....

I too have a couple sockets that are either broken or have wires that won't stay in. I'm just going to take one to a junkyard and see if I can find anything that fits the same size hole in the taillight housing and repair it that way.
No, I do not have a numbers matching, show condition, original car. So it doesn't matter to me what I do to the harness or sockets.
