Well the fuel pump went out and i put a new pump in but i havent been able to get power to the new pump. I ran my own hot wire to the pump so it would get power and start but since then its has been running ruff and at times not running at all. Can anybody help with this problem??

You might want to invest in a fuel pressure meter and hook it up to your fuel rail on the engine and see what kind of pressure you have. I believe you should be around 45psi.

If you changed pump, you should change the fuel filter.
Might change the fuel pump relay located next to the drvr side hood hinge, the black box.
The f/pump should run, listen for a hum, for 2-3 seconds controlled by the ECM, after turning the ign key to IGN.

You might add a can of fuel injector cleaner to the next full tank of gas.
Does the engine fast idle when cold?
Are all the intake tubes before the throttle body in good shape, no holes/slits?
Has car been sitting for a while or this symptom a gragual fault or came on overnight?

The fuel relay still works. Iv changed the filter as well.
The motor still idles the same as it all ways has it just trys to cut out and die when im not on the gas or brake.
The battery also goes dead every-time i shut the car off for a few hours.
Iv been told it may need a new brain?

Reads like you have two problems here - engine dies and power drawn when car is off.
If engine starts and runs normally for the first 5 seconds, then dies, I would check the EGR valve for not seating internally. It will require removing the valve, turn it upside down and pour in some gas in one port, let the valve sit outside upside down, and come back later to see if gas is in the other port and if it is, replace EGR valve.

The electrical part, first check to see if alternator is charging by measuring across the battery posts during the engine running, 13.8 volts min.
if alt is working, then do the test lamp trick with one battery cable - insert a test lamp between a bat cable and bat post - current being drawn, light will light. ECM and stock radio will draw some power, less than 100 milliamps - very dim glow of test lamp.

If light is bright, start shutting doors, glovebox - wait, there is no glovebox on an '87, and remove fuses to reduce the lamp glow. The one circuit having the most current drawn will be the one to look for problems.

You may not need an ECM.
