I have 1995 Z28 with a 6 spd. tranny.
It pops out of reverse even if you hold it in. When it pops out the shifter does not move. It will back up only if you ease the clutch out at an idle. Give it any gas at all and it pops out.
Are there any shifter adjustments, either while trans is in car or out,or does it have to come apart? rayj.

a friend of mine has the same problem. all you have to do is double clutch and put it in to reverse and save up; for new synchros

Never saw a transmission with syncros in reverse. If the shifter doesn't move when it pops out something is loose or the shifter is not letting it go all the way into reverse. I have never been it a 6SD so I can't give answer from experence

Thank you for your answers.
I checked with GM. and there is a reverse gear synchro assembly listed in their parts catologue.
It goes into reverse very smoothly, I don't need to double clutch it as it does not grind at all.
Usually a bad synchro would make it hard to get into gear and grind, wouldn't it?
Does anyone have any more ideas? rayj....

I obviously don't know a thing about 6 SPDs. We both will learn. You are right about the syncros causing a trans to grind going into gear. I will ask some people that do know and maybe we both can learn something.

I'm no expert, but syncros usually have three detents held in position by a snap ring that holds tension on the syncro hub.
The hub has a notch around the inside that engages the detents holding it in gear.
Yours may have a broken ring and it might even be broken in a way that prevents the syncro hub from going into gear fully, thus popping out of reverse easily.
Just a guess.
