I have a q-jet that bogs bad when the secondaries are supposed to open, when running engine with no load like in park or neutral, the secondaries work fine, but as soon as im driving, if i go to stomp on it, it spits, and almost dies, then about 4 seconds later, it starts to pick up speed. They are opening all the way too. Any info would help, thanks

the secondaries are opening too fast...they shouldn't open at all under no load situations. you can tighten it up a little bit with a screw that can be a pain to get to. maybe someone else can explain it.

As novaderrick suggests, Q-jet secondaries are opening too quick.

The adjustment is pretty simple,
1. Look at the pass side of carb,
2. In the upper left hand corner, there will be a slott for a 3/16 in flat screwdriver.
3. Underneath, pointing down is a 3/32 allen screw, this clamps the spring.
4. Loosen the clamp screw,
5. Slowly turn spring wrap-up screw CCW until the tension is released. DO NOT try to go further.
6. Now, slowly turn CW, usually 1 complete turn, tighten clamp screw.
7. Check for bog, if still there, continue to turn CW, tighter spring, in 1/4 turn increments until bog goes away.

The above procedure slows the opening of the air doors to lift the rods up out from their respective jets to provide extra fuel on engine's demand. The throttle plates are opened, but, until the engine develops enough air flow through the secondaries, air doors are closed. Then as rpm's increase, air speed increases, and doors open, more fuel given, mo power!

I always had a bog, a consistent bog, on two early Camaro's I owned. After adjusting, I dropped 60' times from 1.9's to 1.6's.

Make sure the hose to the pulloff is not broken and hooked up.
