This is soooooooo REDICULUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!
I just came inside to sit down a few minutes, cool off & vent my anger & frustrations about the chrome molding around the front windshield.
It’s been around 102 degrees outside in the Lone burning Star State today.
ARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
What a hassle!!!!!!
For any of you who have to mess with this in the future. Be patient. After you remove the obvious screws on the top of the header molding, there are 2 more; one on the driver’s side & one on the passenger side. Each of the “hidden” screws are under the rubber weather stripping.
After I took the rearview mirror off & the sun visors & all, I was really to start gently prying & tapping, prodding & coercing from every angle. I tapped putty knives under the molding of the inside of the car first, so that they were wedged between the windshield & would just stay there on their own. Then, I took my tire iron & slid it through the hole where top latch had been. Then I pretty must did the same thing from where the rearview mirror had been. Then, I just kept working it from every angle. I found tapping small flat head screw drivers in (underneath the middle, where the moldings overlap) worked best. I just kept prying & tapping, prodding & coercing as best I could. It’s that goo they put under the header moldings at the factory. It acts kind of like glue after all the screws are out. Man… What a hassle.
It's a good thing I play the guitar too. I went through about all 6 strings "sawing" the windshield loose from its seat.
Tomorrow should be a good bit better (still hot though). But I can finally start getting to that surface rust that has been out of my reach for so long. :)
