If you had a choice between a 68 camaro with a inline six or a 74 camaro with a 350, which one would you get?

What are the cars' conditions? If the 68 needs $25K of work and the 74 is ready to drive, I'd take the 74. But I like the big bumper cars, and a stock 2nd gen handles a lot better than a stock 1st gen.

You keep asking all these questions without giving much in the way of detail, and no one can give good advice without enough information...

Does anyone know a cheap way to make a inline six faster?

If it was me only..I would go with the 68.Sounds to me the 74 will be better suited to you...seeing how you are seeking some semblance of performance.
Not to say the inline can not be built...our dirt roundy round with a 194 head /custom cam/500 holley 2 bbl and big block springs spun up 7k rpm in the marbles according to the tell tale tach and took many a checkered flag on a dirt 1/4 mile.We visited tracks that typically ran stock 400 cid limit v8,s and our little six always finished in the top 3.

To summarise..yep the the little six can hold her own against a v8..but it does not come cheap. If I wanted to make a statement...she would be efi turbocharged in the first gen Camaro and a blank check upfront.

Headers, cam and intake - just like a V-8 ;)

These guys can help - http://www.cliffordperformance.net/html_pages/news_pages/chevy_facts/chevyfacts.html

I raced a 'stock' L-6 Nova with my cousin for many years in SoCal - surprized many a guy running a V-8 and won LOTS of races

As others have suggested...not enough info to work with...and no mention of $$$? And yes, some of us will be a tad biased on the mid kid, eh?
