View Full Version : timing & carb help 302
Track Rat Mar 20th, 05, 12:30 PM Hey Guys, What is the timing, dwell, point gap & rpm supposed to be on the stock 69 DZ302?
same if bored 30 over? and what order do you do this in?
man, its been awhile since I did this graemlins/clonk.gif
Also, where does the pcv hose hook up? (rear port on the carb?).
Does the vac. advance port hose on the dist. go to a T splitter with one hose to the front port on the carb and the other going to the choke?

Everett#2390 Mar 21st, 05, 01:33 AM In this order:
Point Gap = .019 inches
Dwell = 28*-32*
Plug gap = .035 inches (AC R43)
Timing = 4* BTDC, vac adv disconnected and plugged
Curb idle = 900 rpm.
Adjust idle mixture for best vacuum.
PCV hose hooks up to rear port. Vac adv goes to port above the throttle plates, ported vacuum. Choke pull-off to full time vacuum, below the plates.
Track Rat Mar 22nd, 05, 03:03 PM Everett #2390 Thanks for the help, got the PCV correct but, the vac adv. & the choke are throwing me a curve.
My carb is a 4053 date 943 no smog stuff, open element type air filter, on the bottom plate I have a port on the front pass. side pointing twards the right headlight direction which both the vac. adv. & the choke were connected to with a T in the line, the only other port I have is on the pass. side, twards the back of the carb, right below & in front of the mounting bolt for the carb & that is plugged, is that where the choke is supposed to go? and the vac. adv. goes twards the front by itself, correct?
The mixture screws 1 on each side of the carb at the front, correct? turn one at a time left or right until the idle smooths out, correct?
Thanks in advance for any help guys.
JohnZ Mar 24th, 05, 02:10 PM Here's a photo of the correct stock setup. To adjust idle mixture, connect a vacuum gauge to full manifold vacuum and adjust the mixture screws to get the highest steady vacuum reading; on a stock 302 at 900 rpm that will be about 9"-10". graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Track Rat Mar 25th, 05, 04:14 PM John, COOL, we have the same color, my int. is white how about you?
OK, now what more could I ask for than a pic. thanks so much!
My pcv. connects to the backside of the carb.
where yours connects mine is plugged.
Where your vac. adv. hose connects I do not even have a fitting there.
My vac. adv.hose & my choke hose both went to the front port where your vac. adv. hose & something else is connected was that correct?

The pic above is how the car is configured when I show it (the original factory setup); any other time, I cap off the side port where the vacuum advance is normally connected ("ported" vacuum), and run the vacuum advance from the tee in the choke hose at the front (full manifold vacuum) after disconnecting the hose from the tee that goes to the diverter valve, essentially the same as yours is hooked up. :)
