Steve R Feb 15th, 00, 07:28 PM Generally when you jack up a car and spin one of the tires the other will spin the same direction. This, however, is not fool proof, if the posi is burned out this will not happen. The only way to know for sure is to remove the cover and look for clutches. If you do remove the cover you can count the teeth on the ring and pinion, plus take the number off the carrier to see if it is a 2,3, or 4 series. Steve R. joeyj Feb 16th, 00, 08:27 AM Hey steve..You say there is a number to tell if it is a 3 or 4 series carrier...can you please explain? Steve R Feb 16th, 00, 11:09 AM The numbers on the carrier are visible when istalled in the rearend housing. I don't remember exactly where but with a little searching you will find them. These numbers are for Posi carriers only, 2 series ED 32088, 3 series 30140PM1, 4 series EDB30174. I hope this is of some help. Good luck.
