For the past few days its been cold out, when i start the car, it immediatly starts, it runs at fat idle at about 1500rpm until the choke warms up then it drips to about 975. while i bring my kids to the bus stop i allow it to run approx 10 more minutes, when i get in the car the idle is at about 500 and feels like its about to stall, i get it in gear and drive and the car is fine afterward and idles at about 575-600rpm this only seems to happen in the morning when it is cold out although it has been quite damp with alot of rain here latley, what could cause this and how can i correct it, its a 305 w/rochester qjet non computer controlled

I would probably add a can of gas de-icer to the tank.

When gas is drawn through a venturi, a high pressure area, the moisture in the air condensates. Hence, it freezes. This may be the cause of a lean condition during the time of just off choke to a time where the engine compartment is heated up to protect against freezing. Could be summertime fuel mixture from the retailer.

Exhaust corssover in the intake manifold may be plugged, exhaust butterfly may be broken and not closing to allow exhaust gases to cross over to warm up carb.

Very quick fix, I'd probably reset idle mixture and turn up curb idle about 25-50 rpm just to see if it would help.
