I have an 85 sport coup nothing fancy but when I hit the accelerator it won't go on till I give it more gas then I need and it starts to take off. I have had the plugs replaced and lubricated the linkages on the accelerator but it still has a dead spot.

Check your timing. Try to advance your distributor.
