would a cowl hood on 68 ss396 be correct and look good with the ss stripe?

A cowl hood is incorrect for a 68. It wasn't available as an option until late 69. I say build the car to suit your own tastes. If you like a cowl hood, get one.

Just my opinion though...I like the SS hood better. You don't see as many cars with their original SS hood because everyone takes them off to install cowl hoods.

the reason i was going with the cowl is carb clearance, will a bbc and performer rpm fit under a ss hood?

everyone has their own tastes, but the cowl hood and rear spoiler really make the camaro.
I cant go anywhere without comments now that i have those....

i asked this same ? about hood clearance with my 69 ss hood. decieded to leave it stock so i hadn't changed anything. i think it will fit if you use a drop base air cleaner. search some of my posts on hood clearance to see the answers i got.

I installed a Performer RPM with Holley 3310 on a BB under my SS hood. The only way I could get the hood to close was to use one of those triangle-shaped Edelbrock air filters with the foam element. Hope this helps.

You know what they say about opinions. But I love the look of the SS hood with the 4 port louvers

My point about the cowl hood... only about 10,000 69 Camaros actually came with the option from the factory. That's only 10,000 cars out of the over 600,000 Camaros built from 67-69.

Now days, you would think that the cowl hood was standard because you never see a nice Camaro without one. I think they look great, just a little overused.
