Hi all,

Trying to put my hydraulic pump back in the car on a 69 vert with power top.

Anyone have any helpfull tips to get those damn grommets in? I got them installed on the pump and can get two to go through the holes on the mounting plate in the car. That third one is a Beeeeeitch. The back side one on the side of the pump with two grommets.

I got so much soap on these things that I'm going to blow bubbles everytime I put the top down!

Any help will be greatly appreciated,

A

You've put much more effort into it than I ever did. I've had power tops on 2 different Camaros since the 80's. I always just let the motor sit on top of the motor mount. The hoses are so stiff & anchored down so well, the motor just doesn't move. It really doesn't have room to move in that little area behind the seat anyway.

It's never given me any trouble just letting the rubber nipples sit lightly in the motor mount holes, held down by the weight of the motor & stiffness of the hydraulic lines.

Try using silicon lubricant spray on them. Same stuff you use for weatherstripping. It worked for me.
They were indeed difficult and you have to push down hard onto the pump to make them go in.

Install one side first then the other...as opposed to pushing on both sides at once. No doubt installing these pumps with the grommets is a challenge.

Good luck!
