Hi all, I'm thinking about removing the manual top frame from my 67 and was wondering how difficult it is to remove/reinstall. Currently, the fabric is almost gone (rotted off). I'm getting ready to put it on a cart for floor replacement, etc. Any help/hints/tips is appreciated. Thanks.

not that hard to take off.... hopefully you are not going to disassemble the whole thing?? Is is rotted out or something? If it is in place and lined up correctly and you just need to replace the fabric I would leave it in....

Taking it out is easy. I'm good at taking stuff apart. Getting it back in correctly is another story.

Before you remove it, mark the location where it bolts to the body on the sides so that you can get it back exactly where it came from. Take lots of pictures, measurements, etc. Save the old top and window and mark on it with tailor's chalk where it is fastened to the frame, rear tackrail etc.

Refer to the Fisher body manual if you plan on tackling the new top yourself.

I did my own about 20 some years ago, and I remember it taking a full looong day. Lots of cussing and sweating, but it turned out nice. I'll probably have to revisit that project one of these days....

I just replaced some bent frame rails and the top on my 68 SS power top convertible. It is quite time consuming, however if you are sound mechanically you can do it yourself. Besides the top, pads, well liner and weather stripping I had to purchase an electric staple gun with 3/8 staples, 3m weather strip adhesive and be sure to replace any tack strips that are bad. Oh, and plan on spending some time in your trunk when you bolt the back of the top back on. Good luck..... Keith

The fabric is shot, but not ready to get it redone. Too much body work to do first. Just thought about removing the frame as a unit to lighten the body up for lifting on a frame.
