ok my friend has a '92 RS and I just finished building a beefy 360 for it and haven't decided to switch to mechanical fuel pump or just rig the old electric to come on when the ignition is triggered..since we are taking all the electric stuff out of the engine bay from the old 305 TBI...how would i switch to mechanical without removing the old fuel pump. i haven't looked but isn't it an intank elec. pump?
just need input on switchin to mechanical, i dont' want to go taking the old one out of the tank, can i pump through it or is it blocked when not on?

Isnt there a place on the block where a mech. fuel pump mounts. It should have a block off plate covering it. I might be wrong. If I am, it wont be the first time!!

You're going to need to remove it for a mechanical pump. Otherwise, use the electric and get a regulator to drop the pressure down to 6-7 psi. That's probably the easiest thing to do.

Most electric in tank fuel pumps will not allow fuel to flow when they are not working. I agree with Camcojb and say to use the stock electric pump and add a fuel pressure regulator

That's exactly what i did way back when. I believe it was the Mallory 4 port return style. Worked very well, and very easy.
