My 70 half camaro is having loud knocks. A friend of mine said it sounds like my lifters; checked it out and a lot of them are pretty loose. I tightened them but my book does not specify torque or I'm just not finding it.????????????

What kid of lifters, solid or hydraulic? What brand, are the chevy or aftermarket?

Theres an order to tighten those. If there hydralic than the spec is zero lash plus 1/4 to 1/2 turn. I just tighten them with the car running. Remove the vavle cover and star in the front. Loosen the nut until you hear the rocker start tapping. Then tighten the nut till the noise stops. Than go 1/4 to 1/2 turn. If all goes well than move to other side.
Do all this with the engine warmed up and use a lot of rags or rig a device to deflect the oil.
If you tighten the rockers that where loose i would loosen those backup. A loose rocker is better than an over tight one. Also a manual should show you the steps for a cold lash adjustment when the engine is not running to get you close so the engine will run.
Unless you have a 350/360hp lt1 than they should be hydralic lifters.
