Two months ago I started my car like I do once a week, let it warm up for 15 minutes and then revved the motor at 3000 rpm for a couple of minutes. The motor backfired and stopped running. Now the motor will not stay running. It will only run while holding the ignition key in the start position. I sent the HyFire unit to Mallory to test and they sent it back saying it tested good. They suggested checking the voltage at the coil with the ignition switch in the ON position. It had 0 volts in the run position and 8 volts when you try to start it. So I went and bought an ignition switch from D&R Camaro but it still will not start. Checked and rechecked all the wires from Unilite to HyFire to coil, all good. I have a Diehard that is less than a year old and it cranks over fine. The car has been it the garage all winter, so it’s not wet in any way. The Distributor, Coil, and HyFire are over 15 years old but the car has not had 500 miles put on it in that time. I should also mention that I never installed the ballast resister and the resistance wire has been replaced with a non-resistance wire. Maybe the Promaster coil is bad? Maybe the Unilite? What should I try next?????
