I have a muncie 4 speed. It was making a grinding noise when I pushed in the clutch to shift. Everyone told me it was the throw out bearing, so I changed it and that wasnt the problem. Also when I put it back together after changing the bearing my 2nd and 4th gear grind. If anyone could help I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you need to adjust your clutch free play. I think you have too much free play and the clutch isn't disengageing.

Does it grind when you put the clutch pedal in, or when you're attempting to shift..If it grinds while trying to shift, there's too much free play in the pedal as COPO said..

Does anyone actually have that special tool the factory used to adjust the clutch freeplay...the piece that fits into the fork??

The Service manual sets it by placing the adjustment rod into the gauge hole (to get close to specs measurement) once removed and installed in the operating hole on the Z bar.
I just measure the distance at the clutch pedal with a measuring tape by pushing the pedal down with one finger.

The only reason the factory used the tool is because the car was on an overhead conveyor, 6 feet off the ground, and the adjustment was done all from underneath - nobody could get in the car to check pedal free play with it six feet in the air. Just make the adjustment based on pedal free play, and make sure the rubber bumper for the pedal stop is still there.
