First off, planning to run a mild 396 with HR cam...read this as cruiser.
Looking for cruising pleasure, minimal rumble. Will be running ext manifolds too. Cruise in OD will be approx 2.60

I plan to run the Hotchkis deep tunnel brace

What exhaust are you soft top guys running?
Anybody running the Walker/Dynamax 89021 transverse set-up?

In my assembly manual, I see some systems with just the transverse muffler. In other drawings I see mufflers or resonators forward of the axle.
Both types of exhausts from the factory? What were they called?

vids and soundclips most appreciated!

I have a 1967 327 vert with the Hotchkiss brace, I had the exhaust system fabricated at a local shop. They used all the OEM hangers and it worked out very well. Sounds good and the cost was a fraction of any of the packaged systems.

I am running a flowmaster transverse set up with the Hotchkis tunnel brace. not loud at cruise at all, but it does growl pretty good when you step on it. I am running stock manifolds as well. Here is the link:

Running Hooker Super Comp headers, 1 3/4" primaries into full 3" pipes, into Magnaflows and out the back under the bumper. This was done by a local shop that specializes in hot rod exhausts, King Muffler in Morgan Hill,CA. I ran Flowmasters for a number of years and needed a change. I really like the Magnaflows as they scream above 3000rpm.

I have a 69 droptop with 350 330 crate, 700r4, 3:31's I had transverse Flowmaster with Hooker shorty headers, with stock crossbrace. worked fine except I got so much heat in trunk and tunnel floor even after I wrapped muffler. So hot you couldn't touch floor or gas tank. I went with Dynaflows mounted under car working better. I don't like look of Camaros with mufflers hanging down under car. I did paint rear of mifflers black to help hid them from the rear. FLOWMASTERS SOUND BETTER IMO. Flow master has redesigned transverse mufflers so feed comes in front of muffler and out comes out end. makes for better fit and less pipe issues Jay

Dave – Thanks for the mention. That’s a great kit that wakes up when you want it. :)

George – The Flowmaster kits for the first-gen Camaros that we sell say that they don’t fit the convertibles, but that just means they don’t fit unless you’re running an aftermarket X-brace under your Camaro like the Hotchkis brace you mentioned.

Jay – Was your crossflow Flowmaster a stand-alone muffler or the complete kit? The muffler you see in the Camaro kit is a special version of the Crossflow muffler. You may also notice that it comes with a heat shield attached to reduce radiant heat out the back. We’ve run this complete kit on many of our test cars without heat causing a problem with fuel.

We also offer a few different sized heat shields for custom applications if you’re installing the crossflow muffler by itself.
