: Panels Needed
67RSConvertible Dec 13th, 11, 10:31 AM Hello,
I just posted my intro over in the Welcome section. I am restoring my 67 RS Convertible and need some help for replacement panels. I will need some wheel house panels as well as the drip edge for the convertible top to attach to. I have attached the parts illustration and I need # 24. I am not sure where to start, every panel manufacturer does not have a clue as to what I am describing. Any and all advice is appreciated.
Vintage 68 Dec 13th, 11, 11:50 AM It looks like you want the #1000L Inner Quarter Bracket by Dynacorn.
If that piece doesn't contain enough of the structure you're looking for then you may need to order a complete Quarter Frame assm. (for coupes) and cut the remaining pieces you need.
Or, find a donor body and get the whole left quarter of the body ...
67RSConvertible Dec 13th, 11, 11:57 AM Vintage,
Thanks, I have had my eye on that Dynacorn part, but all the dealers say that it is '69 only. I have been thinking about purchasing one and just making it work. Real hard to find donor cars here in the midwest, I have looked at two and they were worse off than my car.
Thanks again!
Frank
tjgimp Dec 13th, 11, 04:14 PM Post a picture of your car. Maybe some guys on here can offer some other suggestions.

Thanks Everyone, I have a call in to a shop that has used the Dynacorn Panel 1000R and they may know how to fit it to a '67 since they are listed for a '69
Cheers!

Mike-T Dec 13th, 11, 07:14 PM I bought those for use on my 67 RS Ragtop, and oddly enough just last night I was briefly comparing them to the original pieces. Other than being made a bit differently nothing has grabbed me as being vastly different from the originals, but that may not show up until they are installed. Kinda funny, after looking at my old ones, I probably could save them..Anyway, seems as though I remembered someone saying that the arch was a bit different where they weld to wheelwell but not positive on that...Time will tell!
KevinW Dec 14th, 11, 04:24 AM Frank, I picked up that part for my 69 as well. I think the difference is where the rear shaker is bolted. But what you do with repro panels is use them as patch panels and save as much of the original panel as possible. That part is actually 2-3 peices welded together. You might be able to seperate it and just use the panel that is bad.
I have a pass side 69 version in my shed (spare) as well as the DR side from dynacorn. I have to cut mine off the shell to save the GM qtr, so it can be re-attached CORRECTLY! :) let me know if you want pics.
67RSConvertible Dec 14th, 11, 07:41 AM Thanks everyone, I think the issue I have been stuck on is in this pic http://imgur.com/a/S6tpd#48 if you look at the very rusty panel, it does not appear as part of the repro. I think it was a past repair/patch panel and if not, I will make the new panel work. So, I think you guys are correct and I will just purchase the replacements and use as necessary. That is going to be the great thing about this restoration. Knowing what was done and how it was done. Thanks again everyone, the responses and advice are very encouraging! Makes me feel like the restoration will not take a lifetime :hurray:

KevinW Dec 14th, 11, 08:30 AM Frank, the upper section of the Dynacorn panel (rusted section of yours) is included in the part and yours is a factory part. Like I said, I have a spare GM pass side if you want me to take pics and other things :), PM me. how is the DR side?
BTW, the lead is factory applied on the seam from the trunk filler to the QTR. That area was smooth from the factory. No issues there except for the lack of good metal underneath :D
67RSConvertible Dec 14th, 11, 09:42 AM Kevin,
Both sides are gone. If you get a chance, a picture would be great. I did update the photo to show what I was talking about. http://imgur.com/a/S6tpd#56 the issue is the piece I colored red, does it exist on your replacement panel or is it just the panel I colored blue.
Thanks
Frank
KevinW Dec 14th, 11, 10:14 AM it includes the red, blue and the two vertical sections underneath the red to the top of the wheelwell all the way to the tailpanel and the curve to the filler seam. That is why they want so much for it :D Pics tonight
KevinW Dec 14th, 11, 02:54 PM oops, mixed up my days. I can get the pics thursday (tomorrow) :)
KevinW Dec 15th, 11, 06:54 PM Here is the dynacorn part 1000L (DR side), the pass side gm one is buried and my card filled up.

67RSConvertible Dec 15th, 11, 07:53 PM Kevin,
Thanks a ton, I think your pics confirmed my suspicions. It can work with some altering. Here is my setup http://imgur.com/a/S6tpd#76 I think that dynacorn has merged the yellow and the blue panels in to one panel and the the red and the green panels in to one, probably for manufacturing reasons. Thanks again, I think I have a handle on it now.
Cheers
Frank
