I have one original shock cap on the left and nothing on the right.
It says in the assembly manual that the coupe had only one.
I am guessing that is because the spare in the trunk brace was welded
in another place and hid the right side top of shock? my question is does the convertible get two of these caps in the trunk for the top shaft of the shock that sticks through or one, or none?

1969 assembly manual p.59 part #1

thanks. thats interesting. I was thinking they might have put two on to protect the vinyl flap between the seat and rear window but I guess there is some reason they chose not to or why the coupe has one only.

great site and cars you have there

Hmmmm... I'd been wondering what happened to the 'right hand side' shock cap in my trunk... I thought I'd lost one of them..
Thanks for this information!

I'm sure the cap has to do with the staggered shocks...

yes, I just did the rear shocks and the passenger side shock is in a cavity behind sheet metal so of course theres not two caps ..duh!
I should have remembered that but I havent been in my trunk in a long time.
the question is why the coupe got the drivers side cap and the convertible didnt according to the assembly manual. I mean why was that?
when I changed the shocks I thought it would make sense to have a cap there as the metal shaft is of the shock is near the back seat to window flap. Maybe its because the flap hides it on verts. Anyway the PO had one there so its all good now. Pretty sad that I didnt figure that out before posting though
:beers:

My Firebird has two. It came with an inflatable spare which being smaller apparently called for one on each side. Or someone had two in his hand when he was working on the line.
