I have an 83 camaro, I don't know the tranny specs but it is a 3 speed automatic, but it is not downshifting after driving a long time at highway speeds. I will go for like 15-20 mins above 50 then when I slow down in say a town, at around 25 miles per hour, my tranny is not going into what I think should be 2nd to avoid the car from bogging down. The sound is like in a manual when the rpm's are too low??? What is causing this? I think maybe it is overheating, so i will check the cooling lines.

I just replaced the fluid and filter. The fluid looked a little brown or burnt, but not too bad.

hmmm, does it have a lockup converter? It almost sounds like the converter is not unlocking. If you disconnect the wire at the trans, does it stop doing it?
