whenever a car is reported stolen, how long is it reported stolen for? forever? and if not for how long? and also is it possible that you can switch VIN numbers on a stolen car to those of a non-stolen car? basically, i pulled my VIN up on my ramair trans am and it says that VIN is for a V6 firebird so i'm puzzled...i dont want to lose my car if it isnt the real VIN but i just found this out and i've had it for 3 years already with no probs...what should i do? i mean i was wondering that if the physical car was a stolen car with bad VIN #s would i be able to get the real VIN #s and file for lost title to make it legal or would it still show up as stolen (thats the only reason i can think they would switch VIN #s) and they take it away? just curious

I had this same kind of problem on a 71 formula. The vin #,on car showed it to be an esprit. The title vin showed to be a formula.I traced the title back to 77 (the furthest AZ. would go)and the titles showed it to be a formula. The car had a formula engine,#'s matching, also, hood and anti-roll bars.
