Thanks Scooter. I purchased a new solenoid and will try again with the heat shield.
The Ford solenoid is an interesting idea. I'll try this if I need too.

I have a similar problem with my Chevy truck. What I have done is keep a screwdriver in my glovebox to jump the solenoid when this happens. I know it isn't the correct or proper fix, but it works for me.

The heat sheild should work, but if it doesn't, there is a way to wire in a FORD style solenoid to prevent this problem. Summit sells them as well as a company called MAD enterprises. They can be reached at (818-786-5725 or by writing them at:
