Okay, I bought a camaro about a year ago and it is a Z-28 but the weird thing is that it's a 1988. Chevy didn't produce z-28's in 1988. It has a performance rear end. Another weird thing is that when searching through a classic industries catalog, the tail lights that are on my car are that of the 82-84 Z's. The VIN check's to an 88 Camaro. The Z-28 emblems are located on it and it has the Z-28 wheels and center hubs. It has a 305 V-8 and it runs a little hot too...i was wondering if anyone had any ideas. Sounds like it might be a plain old 88 with a 305 and someone has made it a Z28 clone with parts from a donor 82 - 84Z. Maybe the performance rearend was added to the car from the donor Z. Guys make clones out of the 1st gens, so why wouldn't they make clones of 2nd and 3rd gen Zs?

Does it have an older Z28 hood or an IROC hood? I had an 88 Iroc and if I remember correctly, it had little stickers with the VIN number on each body panel. Check to see if there is one on the hood and if so, do the numbers match?

Just some food for thought.

If you got a good deal on the car, I wouldn't be too upset if it's a clone.

The IROC was a Z/28. I've read that the Z/28 alone was not an option?
Are there any IROC markings on it? Is the front sway bar hollow? Is there a tube brace running parallel to the sway bar, mount to mount?

Look in the glove box for a sticker with the option codes in it. I think Z/28 will be on there.
Also the vin.
The 302 is more common, it should be 302 tuned port engine for a Z/28. 302 was an option when I bought my 89 IROC.

The engine should run 220 degrees before the fan kicks on, then dip to 200 or so. They "all do that".
