Everett#2390 Apr 22nd, 04, 01:50 AM The best method of repair is to have a Helicoil installed. GMJim Apr 22nd, 04, 03:37 AM Put one of these in. A permanent repair that can accept continuous re-use of the fastener like tightenening headers when they leak and replacing gaskets. http://www.timesert.com/ Jim stingr69 Apr 22nd, 04, 04:53 PM I thought they were factory Heli-coiled when new from Edelbrock. I had a set that were. -Mark. aonghus Apr 22nd, 04, 07:21 PM mine definatley are not factory helicoiled, bare aluminum all the way anyway, got a deal on a thread/tap set from the mac tools guy at my work. smile.gif hopefully fixed soon Everett#2390 Apr 23rd, 04, 01:19 AM If the original alum threads are damaged, rethreading them will not let them hold the same amount of torque as if in original condition. Therefore, you may have to install a thread coil, ie, Helicoil, or a threaded insert. When drilling/tapping alum, there is an alum tapping oil one can use to prevent binding and breaking the tap. Makes working with alum like a hot knife in butter. The Helicoil set includes the drill bit of the correct size, the Helicoil tap, the installing tool, and a set of thread coils. You supply, and must, a small punch and hammer to knock off the installing tab. By not doing so will damaged the bolt being used and the thread coil. |
