My inline 6 from a 73 Nova idles nicely but when I slowly accelerate to about 2,000 rpms the engine starts running very rough and nearly stops running. Above that rpm the engine runs smoother. The timing is correct at 4 degrees before TDC with the vacuum line plugged. It seems like it might want more advance. Could there be a problem with the mechanical or vacuum advance? Is the carb suspect? Perhaps the small carb has an accelerator pump that's not doing its job? Any thoughts are appreciated! http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

Sounds like the off idle circuit is working in the carb. Does it acc. fine when you floor? Is there any backfiring or popping when it happens?

It usually accelerates ok from idle when you floor it, with no popping. However, if I get the rpms into the "bad zone" then backfiring sometimes occurs.

i think the best cure is a simple cubic inch transfusion... it is the patient's only hope for survival http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif

Just wanted to let everyone know the resolution. I installed a rebuilt carb and the engine runs beautifully http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif
