Just did a rebuild of a 350, Comp xe256 cam, roughly 9:1, edelbrock 600 carb, Performer intake, Accel HEI, new wires and plugs, Hedman headers, roughly 9psi to the carb (fuel), .308 rear, Posi, Powerglide, timed 11 deg advance, carb adjusted using max rpm method as Edelbrocks website recommends.

The car lacks power in low RPMs. When I romp on it it hesitates bad. Sometimes stalls. Tried 10 and 12 adv. At over 12 it sounded like a bit of a pop at idle so I figured it was too advanced. Went to 11 and timing sounded good, revs great in park. Figured it might be too rich, leaned it about half a turn, seems to pick up a bit better but will stall once in awhile and cough out the carb. At 3000rpm it really pics up, but this is supposed to be an off idle cam. Oh yes, had to put ny fuel filter on top of the intake, it's see thru and the fuel seems to start bubbling, could this cause the problem? Any suggetions would be great.

Somebody needs to manufacture an insulated fuel line. Some of the guys can tell you methods of insulating the line they use. AND that filter is a fire hazard. Not a nice prospect. But at least it let you know the fuels getting too hot.

I had an engine that ran like that. I trusted the advice of someone I thought new what they were doing and I advanced my cam timing 4° -ran great above 3000 rpm but fell on it's face below that. I put the cam timeing back to 0° and it greatly improved. There are several possibilities -just a thought.
