: Engine sputtering on acceleration... HELP!

Hello!

Here's the deal... I rebuilt the engine on my '83 Camaro. I have one of those pesky 2.8l V6 engines. Anyway, I put on a new carburetor on it, but now, as long as I'm accelerating, the engine is sputtering, and my temp light is blinking, although the engine isn't overheating. What's going on?

A little more information... I noticed that I have a few electrical leads unplugged, and a friend of mine who is a technician at the local Chevy dealer told me that my old carburetor had TPI, and my new carburetor does not.

I looked at my hoses, and I saw that I have one vacuum hose that has a Y joint in it; it's going to the PCV valve and to the brake power booster. I also saw that I have some other hose leads at the front of the carburetor that are unused.

Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Your car came with a computer controled carb. If you installed one from the wrong year or with missing parts the car will run like crap. The computer controls fuel mixture at idle with a soliniod and if its unplugged or not operating than the car will run on base mixture wich is almost to lean for the car to run. Also if the TPS is unplugged than you will have no fuel inrichment when accelerating. Plus those carbs need to be dialed in by setting fuel inrichment solinoid dwell. I would check the part number on your carb and cross reference it with the dealer to see if you have the rightone.

As far as your vacuum lines i would bye a manual with wire/vacuum diagrams.

Thanks for the info, Joe.

My friend (who just happened to be my neighbor), told me he heard me pass his house yesterday on my way home, and he said my ignition system was breaking down. With that, I picked up a new rotor and distributor cap and changed them today. The car still ran rough on acceleration, so he told me I should change the spark plug wires (I couldn't afford them today) to see.

As for the vacuum hoses, I do have a manual, and I checked it out. My hoses were okay, except for one. That was corrected.
