mylittle307 Dec 21st, 01, 03:42 PM i pulled out the old timing light yesterday to give my car a tune up and when hooked up, it didnt work, no light, when i put it up to my ear i could hear like a faint buzz sound but the light wasnt coming on, can the bulb be bad? I checked it and it looked alright, besides, its a weird lookin bulb and i wouldnt know where to get one if this was my problem AxMaN Dec 21st, 01, 07:20 PM Its a xenon arc bulb, they are available at radio shack for about $5, but I dont know how to test to see if the bulb is good or not, since there is no filament to check and you cant check em with an ohm meter. However as far as I know they are pretty indestructable, so you may be better off just getting a new gun unless you are good enough with electronics to test individual components like capacitors and transformers and stuff, I'm not so I cant help you there. davidpozzi Dec 22nd, 01, 02:15 PM Make sure you don't mix up the ground and spark plug wire leads. I know it sounds dumb, but I've seen it done on some timing lights. Got a nasty shock off a crome cased timing light were the guy in the shop was having troubles with it. Turned out he got the ground wire connected to the spark plug...
