View Full Version : 95z28 hesitates

I have a 95 z28.
I just did the plugs & wires (Bosch plat.), O2 sensor, coolant temp sensor, 160deg. thermostat, air filter, radiator flush, fuel additive cleaner, oil treatment, and cleaned the throttle body with brake cleaner.

With all that said:
After 500 or so miles, suddenly...the car hesitates on a strong acceleration! But idles good. The car runs perfect when slowly accelerating. But on strong accel. the car seems to be hesitating on the lower range RPMs in any gear. I can put it on sixth gear (moving about 1500-2000RPMs) and the car seems to be fouling (if I accel hard)...until a higher RPM and then the car runs good at higher RPMs (but cruising at the same speed is fine).
I asked the dealer and they recommended I clean the ceramic part of the plugs, since I used anti-seize on the threads (maybe some got on them).............WHAT?! Does anyone think this is the problem? I spent 10 hours doing the plugs & wires a month ago...and don't really want to do them again uneccessarily.
I also read somewhere on this site that a 160deg. thermostat is bad for the car. Could that cause the problem?
Could it be my throttle body sensoris bad from the brake cleaner? if so how do I check it?
sorry for the long post. Just that after all the work, I expected the car to run perfect.
Thank you for all your feedbacks.

First of all yank out the Bosch platnums and put in a platnum designed for an american car. I've pulled more of those plugs out and installed even basic AC delco plugs just to get the car to run right! Did you change the fuel filter? Most people forget the car even has one. This is very important to drivability and fuel pump life. Avoid the gimmick injector cleaners you pour in the tank. They're out on the market as a preventative maintenance and not as a fix all. GM even says cleaning their newer multec injectors is a no no. They have a so called coating which prevents them from getting dirty. Yea kind of like a self cleaning oven that's not supposed to get dirty but you wind up scrubbing it anyway to get it clean. The only way to really get a clogged/dirty injector clean is to have them professionally cleaned in which the cleaner never contacts the tank and fuel pump. The 160 thermostat is too low for an injected motor. It will make it run richer and get worse gas milage. The warmer the engine the less fuel is needed, to a point!

I would make sure that you got all the plug wires on good and tight. Ive done a few tuneups on those cars and know how hard it is to get them on all the way. One or two semitight wires is enough to cause a miss/hesitation. Also did you happen to drop any of the plugs while you were putting them in. You could have accidently closed/shortened the gap or even cracked the porcelin shell.

I've thrown out more Bosch plugs and wires than any other! Oh yeh, Bosch distributors also!

Even my blown, intercooled, and injected 502 motors work the best with good-ol AC Delco plugs. I've tried them all and always end up back with the Delco's.

Check your 02 sensor - some brake cleans can damage them. When using any gasket maker, cleaner, or etc. make sure they say "Oxygen Sensor Safe!"

You've also unhooked and moved a lot of things to do the tune up - recheck everything! Imean everything, even things you don't think you touched.
