I have a 97 stock z28, it has 96000 miles on it a has developed a noise in engine compartment. the noise sounds like rattling rocks in a tin can and doesn't happen all the time. sometimes when you get into the gas hard from about 60 it makes the noise and stalls could it be something broken loose in the cataytic converter fattling and sometimes glogging the exhaust

You can bang on the cat and if you hear any rattling than its no good. Another sign is if the car feels choked or unresponsive.

Sure sounds like a cat. I saw one so bad it blew the hoses off the air injection manifolds. It's a good time to get a low restriction one.

check your muffler too alot of times when a cat comes apart peices will find their way to the muffler and clog that too.
