I've noticed my coolant is turning color as if it had oil in it and the bottom of the rad cap has a little sludge build up.Anyone with any ideas from where?
It's not tranny fluid since I don't run my lines through the rad.TKS

The color of milk would indicate oil in the coolant and vice versa. Check the color of the oil itself. If also milky, suspect head gasket. I also had some grunge on my coolant filler cap and found that the water pump soon began to give me vibration headaches (bearing shot and relaesed its grease into the coolant). Replaced the water pump, and coolant filler cap remains clean.

Is the car overheating?
Running differently?
Leaking oil or coolant?
Answers to some or all the ???'s may help in determining the source of the problem, if is a problem at all.

if you are running an external oil cooler, the oil pressure is higher than the coolant pressure, if your tubes are leaking inside, the oil would get in the water.

I had this happen on my diesel truck that had 800,000mi. The oil was being squeezed thru the walls of the cylinders due to porosity of the walls from corrosion on the water side. There was no water in the oil, just oil in the water...weird stuff.

I had a 396 and when the jack azz put it together he didn't seal the head bolts, before I knew it the engine was junk. It screwed up some bearings, some cam lobes went flat, crank scratches, etc. I wasn't happy. That could be your problem, just get it fixed before that happens to you.

oil in water is usually the sign of a crack somewhere, (between the oil gallery and a water passage) the oil is under more pressure (hopefully) than the water. (40 lbs vs 16)
Good luck

When a warmed up engine is turned off, oil pressure is zero but coolant pressure remains at 16 or so till it cools. http://hometown.aol.com/zz430droptop67rs/
