brake stop lights do not come on when peddle pressed. all the lights work, backup, turnsignals, the red lights come on when the lights are turned on, but the brake stop lights dont work, i have checked the switch and the peddle touches it , could it be the switch is bad itself? the wires are plugged into the switch, and i have checked the wires and plug in the trunk.they are connected.anybody have any ideas?could it be i need new 1157 bulbs ( the car is a 81 231 v6 camaro,) the bulbs i have in it do light up and thats all they do.

Check the fuses, then get a test light and test for voltage at the brk switch on each side with the pedal depressed. If you have voltage on one side and not the other with the pedal depressed (not touching the switch), you have a bad switch.
The same filaments for the turn signals is used for the brake lights. so if your turn signals are OK your rear bulbs and wires are OK.
