I have a O-ring type water neck that has a slow leak problem. I have already replaced it once and after I shut the car down it starts to leak, anyone have a solution to this problem without using a ton of silicone. Thanks, G

The only sure cure method I have found is a thermostat housing gasket from GM. It has a silicone "O" ring built in to the gasket. Just a couple of bucks. Don't know if you can use it with your housing?

I always make sure that the two surfaces are absolutely flat, free of burrs, then butter hylomar gasket dressing on the intake and cinch the two together. Never had a leak in 20 years. Your o ring gasket must contact both flat surfaces.You can always go to the hardware store in look of a slightly fatter o ring as well. Done that too.

get rid of the o-ring t-stat housing, and get a stock one off a car in the boneyard. it wil lbe cheap, and probably never leak. if you get one off a late model truck with efi- 87 or newer- it won't have the ugly thermostatic switches mounted on it, and be bolted on with 2 short bolts. i have header bolts holding mine on. wire brush it or polish it, and it will look pretty nice.

Novaderrik is dead-on....dump the O-ring housing.

I jerked around with this issue last summer. Put 2 of those things on and still leaked. Get one without the O-ring and you will be home free!

Before you install it, work it back and forth on a piece of emery paper on a piece of glass (or flat, smooth bench top) and make sure the mating surface is flat. Fel-Pro makes a molded plastic gasket with silicone ribs molded into it that seals dry every time (without goop) and is re-usable many times - I've used them for years.
