I have a 85tpi camaro with one electric fan. What is the temperature that the engine goes into closed loop operation. Right now it has a 195 stat will it be alright if I put a 185 stat in it and put a lower temp sender for the fan to lower the cooling. This way seems alot cheaper to me than changing the prom. Will It still go into closed loop operation? Thanks

Yes,it will go into closed loop,as long as the O2 is hot enough.I dont think(not sure though)the coolant temp is the big thing, for running in closed loop.I've seen dead coolant temp sensors, and the computer will still go into closed loop.Although it will drop out sooner.I wonder if you could install a heated O2,and run the heater on a relay?

I think your right the o2 sensor is controlled by the exhaust heat. So what do think of a 185 stat and a fan switch that turns on at 200f and off at 185f. Becuase right now the car like I said earlier has a 195 stat and the fan first comes on at 225f. Thats just a little to hot for me. What do you think.

Thats the way it was designed. But if you want to change it,go ahead. The higher temp, helps with gas milage.I doubt you'll notice a difference in power, with it running cooler. My wifes 85 tpi fan turned on at 236,never had a problem.

Where exactly is this fan switch located? I have a 91 R/S 305TBI and fan doesn't kick on at all, except when I turn A/C on then it turns on immediately.

The fan switch is usually in the pass. side cyl head, between # 6+8,spark plugs. The fan will not turn on unless the AC is on or the water temp is about 225 deg.If it's cold out,it may never turn on.
