I have a 74 camaro, It ran just fine a month ago. And then it sat for a month. When I went to turn it over, it would grind. So I took the starter out, the piece that goes into the bellhousing was cracked. So I got a new starter and all it would do was grind.
The flywheel looks just fine. I dont know what could be stopping it, the enigne turns over. Please Help Me!!!

Did you get the right starter. GM used two differnt gear tooth counts and a few differnt style front housings. i would compare the old one with the new one, ie. count the teeth on the gears, compare the front housings.

Get some shims from your parts house...sounds like your new starter has different geometry and is too deep into the flywheel teeth. Good luck!
