I'm installing the hurst backup switch in my
69z28 to get the backup lights working. The
wiring is easy enough but where and how does
it mount to the tranny? Any clues? It comes
with a bracket but no instructions.

Hmmm.I didn't realize they offered a switch. What's the part number? I did the rude/crude way and wired the lights through a switch.

For '69 the factory put the switch near the bottom of the steering column. It is activated when shifting into reverse so the locking mechanism must be functional. If it isn't the back-up lights can be activated by turning the collar on the column.

The Hurst switch is similar to the factory 67-68 set up. The bracket w/switch bolted to the trans side cover. The switch was connected to the reverse lever by a small link. You will have have to fab some wiring.

The Hurst back up light switch that I installed for a friend had a sheet metal bracket with one hole for the switch and another slotted hole for mounting/adjustment. The slotted hole mounted under the lock nut for the rear shifter over-travel adjustment bolt. You can bend the bracket to get the switch plunger into the correct position on the shifter's reverse linkage arm.

As mentioned above you may have to bypass the reverse switch on the steering column. A wiring diagram would be helpful for this.

Thanks everyone for the help with my backup
lights. The Hurst switch is now fully
functional. Hopefully it lasts, I'm kind of
worried since there is no shielding on it.
But hey it only cost $23. RickD asked about
the part number so here it is 2480003, should
be available at your local speed shop.
