BBCamaro Jul 17th, 02, 03:56 PM hey sounds like your starter is getting heat soaked, either have it rebuilt or checked out or get a chevy hot start kit( a remote mount sylanoid and a good heat shield goodluck

Camn67 Jul 17th, 02, 06:34 PM Hey Trez,
I had the same prob before also,I changed out my switch...ended up being the starter.
Go with the starter, and dont buy one from Advance!
1 2RUN Jul 17th, 02, 07:02 PM Have your battery load tested before you condemn the starter. If you're using a metal heat shield try a blanket type. Thermo-Tec has one available at Jeg's for $23.00. I prefer these because they wrap around the entire starter.

xodus921 Jul 18th, 02, 02:14 AM Important question here.....
Do you have headers?
If you do you may have to look into the remote selenoid like BBcamaro was talking about. Heres a link on how to do it....

drdave69 Jul 18th, 02, 02:57 AM I would also load test the battery also. I had the same problem years ago. After replacing the starter and solenoid, the problem was still there. Found out that the battery didn't have enough amps to turn engine over after warm. Higher amp battery solved the problem.
Good luck.

trezpan Jul 18th, 02, 12:29 PM thanks guys more info brand new delco starter, brand new r59 repro batery the high amp one. brand new battery cables the oem spring type. ........... yes i do have headers but i did not have this problem last year with old set up and headers thanks again i did put a volt meter on the battery while running last night and got a max 12 volts at any rpm. with lights and fan on or off same 12 volts. this does not sound right
drdave69 Jul 19th, 02, 03:12 AM Sounds like you may have a charging circuit problem also. When the engine is running, you should be reading nearly 14v at the battery due to the alternator charging. Do a search here or in the electrical section on haw to trace the problem.

dgrewhl Jul 19th, 02, 07:51 AM agreed,,,should be at least 13.5 volts,,,and after (re)hooking up a ground from the neg battery post to the fender it made a world of difference in my '69 chevelle bb...
