I have searched old threads and didn't see anything that applies to my problem. I Have 68 camaro with 350 SB, TH350 auto, edelbrock performer rpm manifold and new Holley street avenger (570cfm) carb. Bear with me here, as I'm relearning things I forgot and learning things I never knew.

It seems like the electric choke isn't working, 'cause when you start it up cold you have to hold the throttle down to keep the revs up until it gets warm enough to idle by itself. After it's warm, it idles around 1200 rpm in park or neutral and in drive stopped at a light it idles fine around 800 rpm. Car doesn't seem to have any driveability problems.

I checked the voltage to the choke and it is getting the 12V it wants; I have not changed anything on the choke and it is still set to the factory position (mid-range).

Any ideas?

Do you pump the pedal before you start the car? If you dont pump the pedal then the fast idle cam will not set and the car will idle at normal setting.

I was going to suggest checking the high idle setting also. I dont have a Holley, but I believe it should be the same as an Edlebrock. You have to pump the gas pedal once to engage the fast idle cam. This keeps it idled high until the choke warms up. If you have to hold the throttle down to keep it idled up for warm up, it sounds like you may need to adjust the high idle setting.

You may have to adjust choke,factory just has a base setting you will need to set the choke with engine cold and the colder the ambient air temp the better hope this helps

Make sure that the 12v source on the choke is switched to the ignition and not always on. This would cause your problem because the choke coil would always be warm.

I think Mr.C has it - it just looks like the choke needs some adjustment. This is what I should have done right off the bat, but the literature claims the carb "is set right out of the box", so I was a little hesitant to mess with it until I was sure it was required.

As I have adjusted the choke, I have also noticed the choke plate is more open than it was, so I am going in the right direction.
