i've had my 81 z28 for a while and i've yet to see the intake doors on the hood operate. does anyone know what conditions cause them to open? is it possible that it doesn't function properly because the previous owner installed a new edelbrock manifold and custon holley and air cleaner?

thanks in advance for your help!

RobbZ28,
If memory serves me correct, the flaps are controlled by a slide switch mounted on the accelerator pedal. But The engine has to be at a certain operating temp (normal). The shaft that the pedal hits to activate the switch is about 1/2" round. I put a piece of pvc on it and made it bigger to open it sooner. There are probably several ways of doing this, this is just the way I did it about 18 years ago.

thanks zoodad,

if operating temp is a factor, that may explain it because the temp harness that connects to the thermo housing is busted.

thanks again.
