My baby has started making a screeching sound in what sounds like the drivers side head. I pulled the serpentine to make sure it wasn't the alt bushing. I also pulled the valve cover but nothing unusual their.
Any suggestions?

Cam bearing? Check the oil for particles of metal. Hope not but it's better to eliminate the possibilities. Is it a stick or auto? Maybe a pilot bearing? What kind of mod's do you have? Check the valve springs. Let us know what you find.

lol at the title of the post, I have a picture of a Driver behind the wheel of his car screaching out of the side of his mouth!

I'm sorry, I'm not sorry. j/k it's 3:24 a.m. ok.

I will admit that title sounds kinda funny. graemlins/clonk.gif The car is a pretty much stock 305 TBI auto with 120k miles. This screeching sound is somewhat intermitent with the speed of the engine. As the rpms increase so does the speed of the sound until about 2k rpms and then it goes away. I looked at the valve springs and they all appear to be normal. I did an oil change right after the sound started and didn't find any metal in the oil. Unfortunately the screech is getting worse.

Maniac,
About 4 years ago i had a problem similar to this. When ideling and up to about 2 grand it would make a slight noise, but past that i could not hear anything. I didn't want to ruin my engine so some friends and i pulled the engine out. This was after we checked everything from the top that we could observe. The #1 main bearing was almost into the brass. If i had of run the engine much i would have ruined it.It might not be a bad idea to check this.Could save some time and money. Jimbird

jimbird,

Thanks for the advice. I went down to the local hot rod shop where the owner is a chevy god from what i have heard and he said it is probably the rockers. I guess he has seen this before from the rockers with a lot of miles. I am going to price roller rockers tomorrow. Any suggestions on which ones to get??

Thx,
Chris

More than likely, your "chevy god" has hit the nail on the head with suggesting its a rocker arm.

My suggestion is a plugged pushrod or faulty lifter. The squealing rocker arm is the effect, what's the cause?
